City Accomplishments

 

 

 

During the past few years, the City of Burlingame and the Burlingame City Council, have made some remarkable achievements. Some of them include:

 

  1. 1. Facilitating the successful $20.5 million upgrade to the Burlingame Ave train station by Caltrain
  2. 2. Assisting Caltrans in completing the new Broadway Pedestrian bridge
  3. 3. Dedicating a full-time worker to focus on cleanliness of downtown areas
  4. 4. Participating in educating the public about the storm drain measure which will allow us to upgrade our infrastructure. This measure passed in May of 2009
  5. 5. Planting 172 trees throughout the community using Cal fire grant funds
  6. 6. Implementing the use of biodiesel fuel in some of the city maintenance vehicles
  7. 7. Creating a Green Ribbon Task Force to inventory “green” and sustainable practices and evaluate appropriate measures to undertake.  This led to the approval of a Climate Action Plan
  8. 8. Amending our Bayfront Specific Plan and adopting new zoning for the north end of our city to entice new types of development in our city.
  9. 9. Offering CrimeReports.com to the public which is an interactive website that sends alerts about crimes in our city
  10. 10. Implementing Granicus so that the community can watch council meetings online
  11. 11. Winning seven national library awards for public relations
  12. 12. Presenting Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) classes to the community
  13. 13. Hiring a part-time Economic Development Specialist to bring new businesses to our city and help all businesses navigate through the planning and building process
  14. 14. Creating a Community Insight team that gives the Council feedback on various city issues
  15. 15. Creating a comprehensive Urban Forest Management Plan
